Dr. K. (Kenneth) Lasoen
About Kenneth
Professor Dr. Kenneth Lasoen comes from a musical family, but chose history over following in the footsteps of his brother and sister (famous Flemish drummer Isolde). A few years after completing his studies in Ancient History at the Universities of Ghent and Leuven, he moved to London and the University of Cambridge to earn a Master’s degree in Intelligence and Security Studies as part of his doctoral research on Belgian security culture. He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Studies in Security and Defence programme at the Belgian Royal Military Academy.
Since then, Kenneth has focused on the study of intelligence services and the analysis of current international security issues. He specialises in counterintelligence, hybrid threats, and intelligence analysis, and has published extensively on these subjects in leading academic journals such as Strategic Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, Intelligence and National Security, and even the CIA’s own Studies in Intelligence.
He applies his broad knowledge of intelligence and security as a lecturer in ‘Intelligence’ and ‘Current Security Issues’ at the University of Antwerp, as a guest lecturer in the Terrorism, Law and Security programme at Leiden University, and as an instructor for certain European intelligence services. Increasingly, he is also a regular commentator on news programmes such as the evening news and Terzake. Kenneth has served as Visiting Professor of Conflict & Security at Utrecht University, worked as a national security adviser to the political party Vooruit, and as a researcher at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael in The Hague. His bestseller Geheim België. Geschiedenis van de inlichtingendiensten 1830–2022 (Secret Belgium. History of the Intelligence Services 1830–2022) was published by Lannoo in 2020 and is now in its third edition.
